Meow About Melanie Harrison
Hello! My name is Melanie Harrison and I am currently a student at Indiana State University. I am a senior this year majoring in English with a concentration in literary studies and a minor in commmunications. I live here in Terre Haute and bartend at the local Applebee's when I am not working on shcool work or in class. I am a very outgoing person who loves to help others. I have always been told that I am a little to empathic, always stopping to move a turtle out of the road that is trying to cross or giving a few bucks to someone standing on the street conrner. My goal is to be able to utilize this asepct of my personality in the work that I do once I graduate college. Although I am unsure what the future holds for me, I have been told that I am one of the most strong-willed people. When I believe in something, I believe in it with my whole heart.My mother always instilled in me the importance of reading, writing, and education as a whole. My father taught me the importance of always enduring through whatever life may challenge you with. My dad actually always says that "I Won't Back Down" by Tom Petty is his theme song, and I feel like that says enough about his strong-willed charcater. My mother always also taught me to always treat others with resepect and taught me what it means to be empathetic. With her being a second generation elemenmtary school teacher, she always encouraged me to read on my freetime and express my creative abilities through writing.
Once I reached middle-school I really started to focus on my writing through poetry. Poetry is a creative outlet where there are no rules, regulations, or expectations. This is why I enjoy writing poetry as much as I do. I feel as if when I am writing, that is when I am being the most honest to myself. I hope to one day be able to teach others the importance of literature.
I am excited to see what the future holds for me and for the future of my writing.
